Chocolate Chili

Servings: 10 (Size: 1 cup)

Ingredients:

1 pound lean ground beef (We used 80% lean beef/20% fat.)
15 ounce can no-salt-added black beans, rinsed
15 ounce can no-salt-added pinto beans, rinsed
2 (14.5 ounce) cans of no-salt-added diced tomatoes, undrained
¾ cup no-salt-added beef broth
1½ cups yellow onions, chopped
1 cup tomato sauce
1 tablespoon chili powder
6 cloves of garlic, minced
1 teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
½ teaspoon ground coriander
2 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped
1 tablespoon honey

Directions:

  1. Brown ground beef over medium-high heat in a large skillet and drain.
  2. Transfer meat to a slow cooker. Add black beans, pinto beans, tomatoes, broth, yellow onions, tomato sauce, chili powder, garlic, cumin, cinnamon and coriander. Stir until combined.
  3. Cover and cook on low heat setting for 6–8 hours, or on high heat setting for 3–4 hours. Stir in chocolate and honey, allowing the chocolate to melt, and serve.
