COBRA

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) requires most employers sponsoring group health plans to offer covered employees, former employees and their covered dependents the option to temporarily continue coverage at group premiums in certain instances where coverage under the plan would otherwise end.

If you choose continuation coverage, MCHCP is required to give you coverage which, at the time coverage is being provided, is identical to the coverage provided under MCHCP to similarly situated employees and family members.

If you marry, have a child or adopt a child while on COBRA coverage, eligible dependents can be added to the subscriber’s plan upon proper notification to MCHCP. You may also add eligible dependents during Open Enrollment. However, if you terminate coverage, you cannot enroll at a later date.
