The shingles vaccine is covered for adults age 50 and over. For adults age 60 and over, network providers include Express Scripts, Inc. (ESI) network pharmacies.
The FDA has approved the use of the shingles vaccine for adults aged 50 and over. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends the shingles vaccine for adults age 60 and over. Some states require pharmacists who administer vaccines do so in accordance with treatment guidelines established by the CDC. In those states, a pharmacist may not administer the shingles vaccine to those age 50 through 59. Those individuals need to obtain the shingles vaccine through their medical network provider.
