Missouri Consolidated Health Care Plan (MCHCP)
is seeking a qualified candidate to work as a Benefit Counselor. Apply in person
and take a typing test at 832 Weathered Rock Court, Jefferson City. Applications

p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008 in order to be considered.
Essential Functions/Examples of Work
Under the direct supervision of the Call Center Coordinator, the individual in this classification functions as a customer service representative in the performance of technical and paraprofessional work in the dissemination of information regarding the Missouri Consolidated Health Care Plan. The Benefit Counselor functions as a telephone liaison between health plans and members; responding accurately and promptly, both verbally and in writing, to incoming inquiries regarding topics such as claims payment, eligibility, membership in various managed care plans and a variety of other questions. Other duties include establishing a good rapport with members, potential members and providers; working within and outside the office to resolve member problems; maintaining accurate and detailed telephone logs; handling returned mail; and performing other duties as needed or assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities/Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, with at least one-year customer service experience. Prefer additional years of customer service experiance and education beyond high school.
- Basic knowledge of benefit terminology; general knowledge of medical terminology and ability to learn specific plan provisions required.
- Requires a minimum typing speed of 50 wpm in order to facilitate and log telephone conversations into computer log.
- Requires ability to research information on the computer during conversations, have good fact gathering skills, good problem solving skills, and must be receptive to electronic methods of business operations.
- Pleasant telephone voice and genuine desire and ability to accommodate callers in a courteous, polite and professional manner, and accurately answer benefit questions.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Ability to follow detailed guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with MCHCP management staff, other employees, members, health plan representatives, and the general public.
- Ability to successfully complete Customer Service Training and utilize
various software packages; some knowledge of Word and Excel helpful.
- Must have an excellent work history and attendance record verified.
- Must be in compliance with applicable sections of state statute 105.262 related to income tax filing.
